996Value.com is an independent project run by Wesley Neese, a Porsche 996 owner, built to answer one question: what is a 996 actually worth? The site combines a free valuation calculator with market research, all grounded in verified auction hammer prices rather than asking prices or asking-price indexes. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Porsche AG or Bring a Trailer. Follow along on TikTok: @996cabo.

Methodology

  • Data source: verified auction sales only (2017–2026), covering 1999–2005 Porsche 911 (996) cars across 13 variants — Bring a Trailer, Cars & Bids, PCarMarket, Collecting Cars and Hemmings. The dataset grows every month; the live count is in the header of every page.
  • Hammer-price basis: all prices are hammer prices; buyer fees are excluded so figures reflect what the car sold for, not the all-in transaction.
  • Time, priced in: the model carries a sale-month term — measured at about +3.3% a year across 2017–2026 — and always prices at the current month, so a 2021 sale informs the estimate through the trend instead of counting the same as a sale last week.
  • Model first, bands as the check: the headline estimate comes from a regression on variant, mileage, transmission, body, venue and time, fitted to every stock car in the dataset (modified builds set aside). The older band-median lookup still runs underneath, and when the two disagree by more than 20% the result flags it and shows the comps.
  • What auction data misses: BaT skews toward enthusiast-owned, well-presented cars. Private-party and dealer sales aren't in this dataset. Treat these numbers as the auction market, not the whole market.
  • Thin-data policy: variants with fewer than 20 verified sales (GT3, GT2, Turbo S) are flagged low-confidence on every result, and the likely range is a statistical prediction interval — it widens honestly where the data is thin instead of disappearing.
  • No invented data: every figure on this site traces to a recorded sale. Sample sizes are shown wherever a number is presented.

Data & valuation disclaimers

Valuations are directional estimates based on observed auction results. They are not appraisals, not offers to buy or sell, and not a guarantee of any selling price. Auction results reflect specific cars on specific days; condition, service history, and provenance move individual cars outside any band. Past sales do not predict future prices.

Privacy

996Value.com collects as little as possible. The site uses standard, privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic. The valuation calculator runs entirely in your browser — your inputs are not sent to any server. Email addresses submitted for the free buyer's guide or newsletter are handled by the email provider (Kit) and used only for the updates you signed up for. No data is sold.
